Tomorrow is Shrove Tuesday aka Pancake Day – did you think we would leave you unseasonal?
Course not!
We want to hear from those of you who already know what you’ll be putting on your pancakes.
Cinnamon sugar mix is my hands-down favourite, bringing back memories of my South African grannie, who I seem to remember used to invite her whole tribe (13 of us!) round and then spend the entire evening in the kitchen churning out “pannekoek” to pass through the hatch into the front room.
These days I’m making my own pannekoek, and I’m just as likely to use pancakes for a savoury dish. They make a great substitute for canneloni tubes or you can use them as wraps.
Here are links to our two favourite savoury pancake recipes:
Winter Vegetable Savoury Pancakes
Pancakes with Blue Cheese Sauce
Do share what you plan to have, and let us know whether you’ll be observing lent and how.
Now, have we got enough eggs …?

I would have to say baked apple, maple syrup, cinammon but just thought about caramelised pear with melted brie…mmmm
Oh Tepsy now my stomach is growling! Are you still getting British pears where you are? I just baked all of my remaining apples for a crumble – drat! That sounds yummy.
Sweet for me; I don’t like savoury pancakes. Good old fashioned and very un-creative lemon and sugar works well over here, but last year I had to be creative and we used orange juice and agave syrup mashed bananas with creme fraiche with grated chocolate is good too
Ooh Rachelle – now you’re talking! Mashed bananas, creme fraiche and grated chocolate? My word – set an extra place for me Chez Strauss!
The batter is all made, the fillings are waiting and all I need now is a hungry couple of mouths to get out of bed! Maybe you can get here before they wake up
Drat! I bet I’ve missed the boat now. Enjoy, Family Strauss!!
