JuliansVeg – Seasonal Fruit and Local Vegetables Delivered Fresh to your Door!
For most people the credit crunch wouldn’t seem like the ideal time to start a new business. In fact, in the current economic climate and with rising levels of unemployment it would seem an almost ridiculous time to invest in a new venture. However, for Julian Negrut it seemed like the perfect time to launch his local fruit & veg delivery service JuliansVeg. “People want to know where their food comes from these days and buying local means consumers are not only doing their bit for the environment by reducing the food miles on their weekly shopping, but they are also helping the local economy.” Julian strongly believes that quality fresh produce shouldn’t cost the earth: “It’s really important that good food is affordable too, people don’t have to spend a lot to benefit from eating quality fresh fruit and vegetables. Not all of the produce I deliver is local – I haven’t found a banana plantation in Northumberland yet! – but it is all fresh and comes from the best suppliers within the North East.”
Julian has been selling local fruit and vegetables at North East Farmers’ Markets and Food Festivals across the North East and Scottish Borders for the past six years while working at a local farm in Northumberland, planting and picking the fresh produce he sells. He decided to set up his delivery service after his customers commented that they would like to be able to buy local produce on a more regular basis rather than only at the monthly farmers’ markets. As well as weekly deliveries to homes, schools and holiday cottages, Julian also delivers wholesale produce to shops and restaurants across Northumberland and the Scottish Borders.
