Wrapping presents at Christmas is part of the fun, and so is tearing open the paper! Here are some tips to help you enjoy this while being as green as can be:
Wrapping
Turn an old shoe box, into a beautiful gift box. You can use a mixture of last year’s wrapping paper (which you will of course have lovingly saved), off-cuts from this year, and old magazines to create a colourful, festive collage on an old shoe box. Simply select a colour theme, then cut out pieces in the right colour – any shape and size – and stick onto the box, overlapping as you go. Seal all the ends and corners of the box with tape, taking care to make it neat and finish the box off with some ribbon and a recycled gift tag. Perfect!
Or, why not make a pact with your family to use pillow cases as Santa sacks. You’ll still get the fun of unwrapping, with none of the waste!
We’ve also found this video which shows the funkiest gift wrapping we’ve even seen!
If recycling and craft isn’t your thing, you can always select some ‘good’ gift wrap or a re-usable Christmas sack.
Unwrapping
Be careful not to tear the paper, when unwrapping. Next year, you could use it for wrapping presents, decorating ‘gift boxes’ (see above), or creating gift tags and greeting cards.
If you’re feeling really crafty you could use a selection of gift wrap to jazz up an old book, with a new home-made book cover. Here’s a video we found that gives you the basics to get you started:
And if all fails, we have it on good authority that old Christmas gift wrap is great for cleaning the windows!
