Tools For Self Reliance is a nationwide charity which collects unwanted hand tools and sewing machines for sending to impoverished workers in Africa. They have a network of refurbishing groups and collection points around the UK. Volunteers clean, repair and sharpen the donated tools before sending completed kits to pre-arranged recipients.
All types of tools can be sent – carpentry, blacksmithing, tin & metalwork, shoe and leather tools, plumbing, construction, bicycle repair auto-mechanics etc. Sewing machines are also needed especially hand, treadle and modern electric as well as all kinds of sewing accessories.
We all accummulate more than we need over the years and many tools lay abandoned and rusting in sheds and garages. Tools For Self Reliance can make good use of these tools - Practical Help to Practical People. Many unwanted gardening tools are also reconditioned and sold back into the local communities here in the UK.
