Ooffoo has been created to bring together a community of people who share a common vision of optimism. We believe that positive change can happen through the conscious efforts and actions of individuals and communities. Ooffoo facilitates those individuals who wish to network, communicate, help, make announcements, advise and share.

As our societies mature there is a growing recognition that our collective actions have a massive impact on the evolution of our world.

Dr. Paul MacCready, internationally renowned innovator and entrepreneur recognised the awesome ramifications of this when he said,

“Over billions of years, on a unique sphere, chance has painted a thin covering of life — complex, improbable, wonderful and fragile. Suddenly we humans (a recently arrived species no longer subject to the checks and balances inherent in nature), have grown in population, technology, and intelligence to a position of terrible power: We now wield the paintbrush.”

Yet we are of the view that this does not have to make us fearful. We believe that the power of the human spirit and the collective imagination is also capable of painting a masterpiece!

We believe that each and every time conscious positive choices are made, decisions that include not only ourselves but also the benefit of others, our true and best collective self emerges. The whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts and this, we believe, can give us tremendous hope.

The Spirit of Ooffoo

There’s a wonderful story that has been attributed to the Native American Cherokee Indians. The story is about a boy who tells his grandfather that he is feeling very angry and upset. The grandfather explains to the boy that he too sometimes feels angry but also he often feels very happy. The grandfather says it is as if there are two wolves battling inside him. One is very angry, aggressive and acts out of fear. This wolf wants to fight all the time. The other wolf is happy, playful, and only wants to make friends and live in peace. But the two wolves are constantly battling inside. The little boy asks: which wolf wins?

And the grandfather replies: ‘the one I feed’.

This great story is so appropriate to our times. The media concentrate on the stories that make us fearful, unhappy or angry. These are the stories that sell and make the most impact. Of course bad stuff happens but lots of good stuff happens too! What if we start to feed the right wolf?

‘Ooffoo’ itself is the html code for the colour green (well, technically, the code is actually 00FF00) and we love the idea that we can create a community space on the internet where, whatever it is, without hassle or pressure or guilt, Ooffoo can help tint it green!

Whatever it is that you have to say, offer, share or explore, remember Ooffoo is your community. It can only become what we all make it together. Please join us and help us to make this a thriving and positive space that encourages new and innovative ideas, sustainable thinking, a peaceful approach to living and above all a place where we can feed the right wolf!

Funding

We hope to fund this site by carefully selected advertising and the promotion of a wide variety of products in the Ooffoo marketplace which supports many different businesses that sell ecological, fair-trade or ethical products and services. We don’t rely on donations.

We hope that our community can benefit by finding relevant goods and services. At the same time this enables ethical, niche, hard to find (and often very small) suppliers to market themselves and reach an audience of like minded people. All the businesses advertisng on this site have either signed up to our Manifesto or to the principles of Ethical Junction (www.ethicaljunction.org). They offer products or services that fit within the spirit of this community.
